Immerse yourself in the culture and history as our Djabugay guides share their experiences and knowledge of the Barron Gorge National Park. Walk though the forest with your guide to the largest bird nest in the rainforest

Learn about the birds of the rainforest, in particular the cassowary and others nesting on the site. Look for bandicoots, goannas and possums scampering across the forest floor. Learn about the relationship between the animals and the Djabugay people. Immerse yourself in the rainforest by letting your senses take in the sights, smells and sounds. Discover how the rainforest trails were used by the Djabugay people as a network of highways connecting many different areas of the forest. Learn how vital these were to the Djabugay way of life.

Continue on to the Bayu, a traditional Djabugay rainforest home. Learn about shelter, food, cooking, water and communities. Discover how plants and trees can be used for building materials, food and medicine. Wind your way down to beautiful Streets Creek through the vines of the rainforest canopy to the gentle rippling sounds of this ancient watering hole. Discover how the Djabugay people lived off the land and prepared food and listen out for the bush turkeys as they forage in the forest.

Why is the rainforest so important and what can we do to help protect it?

Departure: The 40 minute tour departs from Skyrail’s Barron Falls Station beside the CSIRO Interpretation Centre. Times: 10:15, 11:15, 12:15, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30. At periods of high demand, tours will operate every half hour.
