Cruise Katherine Gorge, explore Edith Falls, and discover the beautiful Nitmiluk National Park.

Katherine Gorge is located within amazing Nitmiluk National Park, which spans more than 720,000 acres. With rugged landscapes, thundering waterfalls and unlimited flora and fauna, Nitmiluk is a haven for adventurers and nature lovers alike. The name Nitmiluk, meaning ‘Cicada Place’, came from the Jawoyn people who are the traditional custodians of the park.
Begin your journey with a stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery, the resting place for many World War II soldiers and civilians killed in the 1942 air raids on Darwin. This is also the site of the only Australian war cemetery on Australian soil.

Continue via Pine Creek to Leliyn (Edith Falls) located on the western boundary of Nitmiluk National Park. The paperbark and pandanus-fringed natural pool at the base of Leliyn is safe for swimming throughout most of the year and you’ll have a chance to take a dip in the refreshing cool waters. After lunch enter Nitmiluk National Park, home to 13 stunning gorges. Stop by the Visitor Centre before joining your guided cruise between the sheer sandstone cliffs of Katherine Gorge. Established in 1986, Litchfield National Park is a stunning location. You can take in the splendor of thundering waterfalls, rainforest pockets and historic sacred sites. It is a haven for hundreds of native bird species and the plateau supports a rich range of woodland flora. The traditional custodians of the Park are the Wagait people, many of whom still call the area home.

Litchfield National Park’s major attractions are the permanent spring fed waterfalls of Florence, Tolmer and Wangi falls. The Park’s central sandstone plateau supports patches of monsoonal rainforest that thrive in the deep, narrow gorges, created over thousands of years by the force of the waterfalls cutting into the escarpment walls.

Common wildlife species include wallaroos, wallabies, possums, flying foxes and dingoes. The caves near Tolmer Falls are home to a colony of rare Orange Horseshoe Bats. Perth Zoo is Australia’s best small zoo and located just 5 minutes from the Perth CBD.

Touted as one of the most diverse zoos in the Southern Hemisphere, the Perth Zoo almost always has something new to see. The zoo is open year round from 9am to 5pm and entrance fees are as follows (all prices in AUD): $22 for adults & $11.30 for children. In addition to Keeper Talks, you can ride in the electric-powered zebra buggy, go on a free walking tour or ride on the zoo’s historical carousel. Australia Zoo on the beautiful Sunshine Coast, Queensland, is nestled on over 70 acres of natural Australian bushland. Steve and Terri Irwin’s vision has always been to make Australia Zoo the biggest and best wildlife conservation facility in the entire world, and there is no other zoo like Australia Zoo. Need to Know
Water is available on transport and snacks are available for purchase. Please wear comfortable, closed toe walking shoes. Bring insect repellent, sunscreen, hat and a camera! You may also bring swimwear and a towel for use at the waterpark.

Today you’ll have the day free to Explore Brisbane. We suggest you use this opportunity to take in the sights of this beautiful city. Perhaps purchase a few souvenirs for family or friends back home.

Visit the South Bank precinct, full of fantastic riverside restaurants, home of renowned art galleries including the Gallery of Modern Art and Queensland Museum, sky-high views from The Wheel of Brisbane, as well as parklands that feature family friendly urban beach pools with expansive city views. Experience the beauty of Brisbane from the river CityCat ferries, and hop on and off at riverside neighborhoods such as the cultural Powerhouse precinct, and festive dining and beverages found at the new Howard Smith Wharves precinct. A must see for all visitors to Brisbane, Mt Coot-tha’s “Brisbane Lookout” offers spectacular panoramic views over the city all the way to Moreton Bay. Walking tracks are abundant through the National Park and the Lookout itself showcases a historical timeline of this iconic destination.

Marvel at the annual migration each June to October of humpback whales as they journey some 10,000 miles from Antarctica along the east coast of Australia. These acrobats of the ocean pass by Moreton Island, often with their newborn calves, creating one of the greatest spectacles of the sea. Your Whale Watch crew will explain the habits and characteristics of migrating whales and serve a light, delicious lunch on board.

Whale Watching – On arrival at the island resort, guests will have a short time to find their land-lovers legs before departing on the whale watching vessel where they will enjoy an educational commentary and Q&A about whales, a light lunch and refreshments and whale viewing.

Free Time at Tangalooma Resort – Free time to enjoy the pristine beaches, visit a resort cafe for afternoon tea, enjoy a swim at one of the resort pools, hire a quad bike or Segway or try one of the 40 free activities on the island from tennis to archery to boule, badminton, squash or mini-golf excluding watersports, just to name a few!

Wild Dolphin Viewing – Stand on the jetty as wild dolphins make their way to the shallow waters for their nightly feeding. (Upgrade to feed the dolphins by hand)

This tour can be taken from the Gold Coast or Brisbane. The Desert Safari Tour will be offered if the Whale Watching Tour must be cancelled due to severe weather conditions or for safety reasons.

Get a ticket on the City Cat Ferry – it’s good for all day & lets you ride bus, train and ferry.

Include Mount Cootha as part of the zones you will cross – you can get off at a ferry stop and take a bus from there to Mount Cootha and take in some great city views. Be sure to do this earlier in the day since the buses stop running out to Mount Cootha later in the day.

Brisbane has a great public transportation system in place and free tours of both the Parliament House and the Botanical Gardens.
