Need to Know
This tour has 300+ stairs – Low Impact. It is strongly encouraged that you leave bags at your hotel and avoid bringing any large items to the Opera House (anything larger than an 8×10″ sheet of paper). No luggage or large bags accepted. Videoing is not allowed. There are plenty of photo opportunities — your tour guide will advise you if photos are not to be taken at any point.

As part of your vacation self-drive Australia and explore our stunning landscapes, coastlines, regional towns and wildlife. Stop and meet the locals, maybe enjoy a counter meal at a local Aussie pub, or relax on the beach while sampling some takeaway fish & chips from the local deli or servo. During one of your rest stops try to spot a kangaroo, emu or even a Koala in the wild.

Self-drive along the east coast from Sydney, New South Wales, to Brisbane.
Day 1: Sydney to Forster (approx 4 hrs)
Today you will depart Sydney and head north along the coast towards Forster, New South Wales. Pass through Woy Woy, stop in and visit the Seaside Village Markets (only on the weekends) or the Bouddi National Park. Lake Macquarie is also on the way, see the blue waters of this salt water lake, and you will understand why tourists visit this spot all year round. Upon reaching Forster, you will notice that this town is dominated by watersports. There is so much to do in this beautiful coastal town. Fishing, dolphin cruises and scuba diving are just a few of the many things you can enjoy here. Main Beach, Pebbly Beach and Burgess Beach are some great places to go lounge in the sand. Try some delicious seafood at one of the many restaurants here. Stay in Forster.
Day 2: Forster to Coffs Harbour (approx 3.5 hrs)
Depart Forster and head further north to Coffs Harbour. Along the way, you will pass through Port Macquarie, which has a stunning history, this is a great place to stop for lunch and enjoy the scenic views of the Pacific Coast. Continue on to Coffs Harbour, where you won’t run out of activities to do. Be sure to see the Big Banana, one of the “big things” in Australia. Pet Porpoise Pool Oceanarium has dolphin and seal shows, Butterfly House is a must see as well as the Muttonbird Island Nature Reserve. Stay in Coffs Harbour.
Day 3: Coffs Harbour to Byron Bay (approx 3 hrs)
Head out to Byron Bay, the most easterly point of Australia. Byron Bay has become a haven for rest and relaxation. Getting away from the grind of city life, people flee to Byron Bay. Artists, designers, craftsmen, and even software engineers now call Byron their home. Go relax on the Main Beach, visit the Cape Byron Headland and Lighthouse or take a ride in a Hot Air Balloon over the beach. The cafes and shops are all local owned and operated. Put up your feet and enjoy this amazing town.
Day 4: Byron Bay to Brisbane (approx 2hrs)
Depart Byron Bay, New South Wales and continue your coastal drive north to Brisbane, Queensland.

This 2 ½ hour drive begins on the east coast at Coffs Harbour and snakes it’s way inland through Bellingen and Dorrigo, ending in Armidale. Along the way there is plenty of cafes, local produce markets and national parks. There are multiple “high spots” which offer great viewing of breathtaking waterfalls. Here is a list of things to see and do along the Waterfall Way: 1. Dorrigo Skywalk: There are elevated boardwalks in the treetops of Dorrigo National Park which offer a spectacular vantage point of the rainforest and wildlife. 2. Downhill Adventure: On a sealed mountain road take an exhilarating downhill mountain bike ride for the ultimate adventure. Pick up and drop off in Coffs Harbour. 3. Solitary Islands Marine Park: If you love the water, this is the place for you. Diving, snorkeling, beaches, birdwatching, fishing, surfing, scenic helicopter rides and seasonal whale watching are just a few of the exciting activities available to you at the Solitary Islands Marine Park. 4. Bongil Bongil National Park: Just south of Coffs Harbour is a place where rainforest meets the beach. Perfect location for family friendly activities. If you’re feeling adventurous maybe try kayaking or white water rafting. 5. Helicopter Ride: The Flight of the Seven Gorges is a very popular flight that explores and showcases the amazing and rugged gorges in Australia. This ride includes Wollomombi Gorge, home to the highest waterfalls in New South Wales! Based out of Armidale. 6. Summer Snorkelling: December to April is the best time of year to hop on a sail boat and go snorkeling. You might even spot sea turtles and sub-tropical fish. 7. Rodeo: An hour drive south of Armidale is the town of Walcha, home of the Walcha Golden Gate Rodeo. This rodeo has been so successful it has been running for over 48 years every January. 9. Cathedral Rock: To experience the beautify and tranquility of mother nature stop in Cathedral Rock National Park. Giant boulders and huge granite towers make a wonderful backdrop to the abundant variety of wildlife which call this park their home.
