Learn about the local medicinal plants used by his ancestors. Referred to by many publications as ‘the South Pacific’s most famous experienced guide’, Pa will recite stories of wars, famines and great migrations as passed on to him by his forefathers.
Most of the walk is over even terrain in lush Rarotongan rainforest and on open ground. Suitable for everyone. Remember to bring sturdy walking shoes, insect repellent and your camera. This is a half day tour.

Enjoy the many attractions Rarotonga has to offer.
Dominated by a once almighty volcanic pyramid, now worn down by time and streams to sawtooth peaks and razorback ridges, the lush green carpeted Rarotonga, is the capital, and the hub of the Cook Islands.
This island paradise is also the youngest island of the group, so unlike its equally enchanting sisters which have been eroded and submerged by age, Rarotonga stands brilliantly upright against the sun. Its vistas are strewn and spiked with jutting pinnacles that fall to terraces and flats planted with bananas, coconuts, paw paw and pineapples that shift into a swampy plateau marked by the inimitable taro patch.
Experience Raro the local way!
See breathtaking panoramic views, travel the ancient road (Ara Metua) built by the Cook Islands ancestors, see ancient Marae’s (sacred sites) and find out about local traditions, culture & customs. Prepare a traditional underground oven (Umu) then while it’s cooking, head off for your safari tour and return to enjoy the Umu feast for lunch!

Enjoy the many attractions Aitutaki has to offer.
Aitutaki is one of the Cook Islands, north of Rarotonga. Polynesians probably first settled Aitutaki around AD 900. The first known European contact was with Captain Bligh and the crew of the HMS Bounty when they discovered Aitutaki on April 11, 1789, prior to the infamous mutiny.
Aitutaki is famous for its turquoise central lagoon, uninhabited islands and palm-fringed beaches. Another advantage is that it has been spared by mass tourism. Noteworthy also are an old church (the oldest in the Cook Islands) and some gigantic Banyan trees.
On your free day in Aitutaki, consider cruising one of the world’s most beautiful lagoons. Bishops Lagoon Cruise offers all day lagoon excursions taking in snorkeling, fish feeding and endless opportunities to explore on your own. You may also consider enjoying a candlelight dinner. With your toes wriggling in the champagne sands, imagine sitting at your beautifully-draped table as a riot of reds, oranges, pinks and yellows set the sky ablaze. Toast to this amazing experience as flame torches flicker about you and the mysterious lagoon gently caresses the shore. Then watch as the sunburst colors melt away into a vast black velvet sky sparkling with a trillion twinkling stars, and set off with the fattest yellow moon you’ve ever seen. This is your night, your night together on Sunset Beach, your faces alight with candlelight, starlight, and joy.
A great way to see Aitutaki is on a bicycle. Ask your hotel if they offer free push bike rentals. Get out and explore the wonderful sights, meet the locals, stop in a restaurant and try the local food!
