Continue on HWY 3 until you reach The Waitomo Caves District (48 Miles). Black water rafting is an intriguing way to appreciate the underground splendours of Waitomo, you’ll be drifting along subterranean streams on your own personal raft. Rotorua is a geothermal wonderland filled with a plethora of activities and attractions to check out. The region’s unique location is filled with hot pools, geysers, mud pools and geothermal activity.

Visit Waiotapu, where there are many sights to explore. Experience the Champagne Pool and waterfall filled with rich vibrant colors of the mineral salts, bubbling mud pools, craters, and Lady Knox Geyser when you visit. Arrive in the morning to see the Lady Knox Geyser at 10:15 am. For a full day of relaxation, visit the hot mineral pools and treat yourself to a relaxing Polynesian spa treatment that uses the local products (like a Rotorua mud wrap or manuka honey facial). The town of Eskdale heralds your arrival in Napier. In 1931 a devastating earthquake nearly levelled this city. It was rebuilt in the style of the times, and is now considered the Art Deco Capital of the world. The vineyards of Hawke’s Bay are all within easy reach of Napier. Another attraction is the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers.

Enjoy a picturesque hot air balloon ride over Hawkes Bay.

For a simply magical experience, your ballooning ride over Hawke’s Bay Wine Country will let you enjoy panoramas from the mountains to the sea and the very best views of Hawke’s Bay.

Flights take place in the early morning within the first few hours of sunrise. They last approximately one hour but 4 hours total excursion time is normal.

We meet at dawn on the western outskirts of Hastings, and fly in a group of six passengers with the pilot, over a patchwork of farmland, vineyards, orchards, and town, with a picturesque mountain backdrop. We launch our balloons from sites to give the best advantage of wind direction. After the flight our chase vehicle will return you to your vehicle which will remain at the launch site. After packing up, share a traditional ballooning picnic before returning to the meeting place.
A balloon cannot be steered. It drifts with the wind. Part of the ballooning magic is that you never know in advance where you might land. We may land in a paddock, on a riverbed, in a park or maybe in some school grounds. No matter where we land, there is always great excitement. The riverbeds around Hastings are the most popular sites for us.

It is warm in the balloon so you should dress as if you were going for a walk outside. We suggest that you wear walking boots or similar, and not high heels. Practical outdoor footwear for frosty or damp conditions under foot is ideal. Bring a hat or cap and sunglasses.

Today self-drive from Napier, Hawkes Bay to Martinborough.

Start your self drive from Napier to Hastings. Hastings was devastated by a huge earthquake in 1931. As a result, the city has a great deal of remarkable Art Deco and Spanish Mission-style architecture. Fabulous parks and delicious ice cream are two other reasons to visit Hastings. In the apple and pear season, there’s no better place to be. Hastings is New Zealand’s leading pipfruit region.

On the drive from Hastings, you’ll encounter a wildlife sanctuary at Mt Bruce and the legendary town of Eketahuna (in kiwi slang Eketahuna is the archetypal hick town). The Tararua Windfarm (it makes electricity out of thin air) is a little further north to see it, follow the road to Ballance. After the antique shops of Woodville you can inspect locally made knitwear in Dannevirke, a town originally settled by Scandinavians. The rural service towns of Waipukurau and Waipawa both have historic buildings to view.

Every year in March, Masterton hosts the international Golden Shears competition. Sheep shearing in the Wairarapa is both a sport and an art form. The town’s main park has an aviary, aquarium, deer park and a small boating lake. Or you could rediscover your childhood at the local toy museum.

Enjoy the clean, green scenery as you drive north through the friendly townships of the Wairarapa. In Featherston you’ll find an interesting locomotive museum. Greytown has many beautiful examples of Victorian architecture and a quaint museum take yourself on a self-guided walk. Carterton is a good place to shop for paua shell souvenirs it’s also a place to enjoy daffodils in the spring.

In recent years, Martinborough has become the gourmet capital of the lower North Island. It is home to over 25 boutique vineyards, several fabulous restaurants and a number of upmarket bed and breakfast establishments. From the charming town square, you can walk to most of the local attractions.

Enjoy the glacier exploration in a very unique way!

After an exciting scenic flight, you land high up on the glacier and undertake a guided hike amongst some of the most pristine and awe-inspiring glacier scenery available. Your guide chooses the route as you go and with an eye for the most spectacular ice formations you’ll soon be making your way through a wonderland of towering pinnacles and brilliantly blue ice. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and with plenty of photo opportunities and the chance to learn more about this magnificent glacier, this will almost certainly be your most memorable experience in New Zealand. A picnic lunch is provided while on the ice for a fully inclusive exerience.

A moderate level of fitness is required for this hike. In the event that minimum numbers are not met, guests will be offered the Heli Hike experience, where available). Please bring with you: Warm, breathable base layers such as merino or polypropylene, suitable long pants for walking in (jeans are not suitable, tracksuits and leggings are fine), sunglasses (these are essential – if you don’t have any with you we have a selection available for purchase at the front desk), sunblock, your own warm hat and gloves if you prefer, your camera or phone, a small water bottle and snack if you need one. Harness, helmet, waterproof jacket, waterproof over pants, weatherproof shoes, and trekking poles are provided on this tour. This experience can be catered to your dietary needs. Your day begins in Manapouri with a cruise across the picturesque Lake Manapouri followed by a trip across New Zealand’s most expensive road over Wilmot Pass, pausing along the way to experience the dense Fiordland rainforest and view Doubtful Sound glistening far below.

In Doubtful Sound, you will board our spacious, purpose built catamaran Patea Explorer for a three hour cruise through this pristine fiord. During the cruise our knowledgeable and friendly nature guides will share with you their passion for the region through their commentary. They will answer questions, point out landmarks and provide you with information about the varied wildlife you may encounter like dolphins, fur seals and the rare Fiordland crested penguin.

Lunch options and complimentary tea and coffee are available on the vessel.

This jet boat adventure offers your senses a feast of spectacular natural beauty on a journey into the wilderness of the World Heritage-listed Mt. Aspiring National Park.

Your day begins with 1.5 hour journey on a jet boat through the Dart River system. You’ll be surrounded by beautiful snow-covered peaks, hidden valleys & waterfalls. Your day includes a guided walk (30 minutes) along the ‘Heritage Trail’ at Paradise. Your guide will provide you with informative & entertaining commentary about the ancient native beech forest. The forests of this region sit within a World Heritage Area, one of the only natural sites of its kind that is accessible to the public.

Your guide details the fascinating history of this area from the days of Gondwanaland, to quests by Maori for prized pounamu, to the present-day efforts of New Zealand’s department of conservation for the preservation of the area. On the ride home, you will stop to view the epic backdrop for many international movies, including ‘The Lord of the Rings’ trilogy.

Dart River Wilderness Safari is a high-country adventure. To ensure that your experience is truly enjoyable, please: Dress warmly and wear comfortable walking shoes, regardless of season or weather. Bring sunglasses, a sunhat and sunscreen (insect repellent could also be useful in some weather conditions). Note that cameras are carried at customer’s risk.
