(Day 1) - International Flight, Los Angeles to Auckland

Shortly after departing Los Angeles you will be served dinner and you will be given breakfast before landing in Auckland.

Relax, watch some movies, and try to get some sleep!

(Day 3) - Day Tour, Deluxe Coach to Rotorua via Waitomo Glow Worm Caves

Experience New Zealand’s rich cultural heritage and the geothermal wonderland of Rotorua, plus a trip through the famous glowworm caves at Waitomo, on this full day sightseeing tour by deluxe luxury coach.

Depart Auckland: Travel the main Southern Highway through small rural townships steeped in early pioneer history. Your host serves morning tea during this sector.

Waikato: Travel through New Zealand’s largest dairy and sheep farming province. See the small farming settlements on the outskirts of Hamilton City, as you travel towards King Country, birthplace of the Maori Monarchy.

Waitomo Glow Worm Caves: Join a guided tour through this world-famous cave formation, climaxed by drifting silently in a boat through a glow worm cavern lit up with thousands of tiny glow worm lights.

Light Lunch: Served on-board as we make our way to Rotorua through magnificent rural farmland with its vast numbers of grazing animals.

Rotorua: New Zealand’s highest city, 305 meters (1000 feet) above sea level, located inside the rim of a volcanic crater. An area of great geothermal activity where you will visit the following attractions:

Agrodome Farm Tour: An introduction to New Zealand farming, with a 45-minute tour of an authentic working farm in all-weather, all-terrain vehicles. Watch a sheep being shorn and hand-feed the animals.

Lake Rotorua: Drive through the foreshore park past the hundreds of ducks and swans. Then travel through the beautiful historic Government Gardens.

Te Puia Institute (Maori Arts, Crafts & Whakarewarewa Thermal Reserve): One of Rotorua’s most famous attractions. See woodcarving, weaving displays, Maori village and the thermal valley with the famous Pohutu Geyser, fumaroles, colourful silica deposits and boiling mud pools.

This tour ends in Rotorua.

(Days 3 to 5) - 2 Nights Accommodation in Rotorua

Travel to your accommodation in Rotorua, New Zealand, where you will be staying whilst on vacation for 2 nights.

Located on the shores of Lake Rotorua your accommodation is only a short walk to the city centre, convention centre, cafes and restaurants. Here in the heartland of New Zealand’s Maori culture you’ll experience an enveloping warmth, proud spirit, deep sense of history and a quick humour. Picturesque cobbled and lantern lined streetways and striking Tudor architecture celebrates New Zealand’s significant colonial history. Travel the region by mountain bike or participate in local bush walks.

(Days 4 to 7) - 3 Days Car Rental

Discover New Zealand as you travel by rental car for three days.

Take the opportunity to explore parts of New Zealand in and around your vacation town. Please bring a valid American driver’s license with you and be aware that in New Zealand people drive on the left hand side of the road.

(Day 4) - Evening Event: Te Po, Indigenous Evening Experience

Te Po is an authentic, one-of-a-kind evening event. It is a feast of storytelling, entertainment and Maori cuisine like no other you’ll ever experience.

The Te Po  Indigenous Experience begins with a mouth-watering buffet at the world famous Pataka Kai Restaurant, Bar and Cafe. With locally sourced cuisine and an authentic Maori twist in each dish, it is guaranteed to be a favorite with your group.

Following this, you will be led to view an exhilarating cultural performance which takes place in the beautifully carved meeting house, Te Aronui a Rua. It will include a Pohiri (Traditional Maori Welcome), Waiata (Song), Moteatea (traditional chant), Poi and Haka.

Afterwards, enter the geothermal valley on a waka (people moving vehicle) and discover one of New Zealand’s most magnificent geothermal wonderlands – featuring dramatic geysers, bubbling mud, and beautiful native bush. For generations Te Puia has welcomed manuhiri (visitors) from all over the world to explore the magic hidden within Te Whakarewarewa Thermal Valley. During this experience, you will be viewing the valley afterhours and resting with a hot chocolate upon naturally heated rock seating beneath the powerful Pohutu Geyser.

(Day 5) - Self-Drive from Rotorua to Lake Taupo

Drive time: approximately 1 hour.

Depart Rotorua for Taupo.

The road to Taupo will keep you entertained with its unusual, volcanic geography. Stop on the drive to Taupo and walk over the Huka Falls lookout bridge. Take a jet boat ride to experience the scenery of the mighty Waikato River and the stunning Tutukau Gorge.
You’ll also drive through large tracts of plantation pine forest.The resort town of Taupo sits on the edge of New Zealand’s largest lake, which is well stocked with sizeable trout.

(Days 5 to 6) - 1 Night Accommodation in Taupo

Enjoy your stay in this modern mediterranean style country manor offering privacy and tranquility in Taupo, New Zealand for 1 night.

Taupo is an ideal base for day trips to the mountains for hikers and skiers, Napier and Rotorua are within travelling distance and our central location (close to Taupo airport) removes the need for you to unpack every day.

Guests can wander around the pond and gardens, sit in the gazebo for a quiet read with magnificent views back to the house, have a game of tennis or petanque or just lounge by the pool. There is a sense of space here. The house is set amid 3 acres of parklike grounds with views of the lake and mountains and is only 10 minutes from Taupo township.

The conservatory is ideal for a quite read particularly in the cold weather. The property also offers a spacious lounge with double doors opening onto the lawn and overlooking the tennis court.

All accommodation includes breakfast and All our bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, are located upstairs, and all have under-floor heating.

Each room contains quality furnishings that include TV, radio alarm clock, and fridge. Guests have aceess to internet and fax facilities, including wireless.

Selections of tea/coffee (herbal teas), fresh fruit, bottled water and complimentary wine are standard. Breakfast is served in the dining room or can be taken alfresco in the courtyard. A laundry service is also available and a 3 course dinner can be arranged with prior notice.

(Day 6) - Self-Drive from Lake Taupo to Napier

This morning self-drive from Lake Taupo to Napier, Hawkes Bay.

The major entertainment on the road from Taupo to Napier is the fantastic scenery. There’s a bit of everything – rugged hills, beautiful valleys, gentle plains and huge vistas. At Tarawera you can walk to the hot springs, which are above the Waipunga River. You might also want to stop at the Waiarua Falls lookout, to view the twin waterfalls.

The town of Eskdale heralds your arrival in Napier. In 1931 a devastating earthquake nearly levelled this city. It was rebuilt in the style of the times, and is now considered the Art Deco Capital of the world. The vineyards of Hawke’s Bay are all within easy reach of Napier. Another attraction is the gannet colony at Cape Kidnappers.

(Days 6 to 7) - 1 Night Accommodation in Napier

Enjoy your stay in the Wine Region of South New Zealand for 1 night.

A great climate with day upon day of sunshine makes Napier a year-round tourist destination and you will quickly feel relaxed as you wander through the streets amongst the splendour of the Art Deco buildings. Stop by the National Aquarium and get splashed by the dolphins and seals at Marineland of New Zealand. Visit one of the many wineries on a wine tour. Or choose from one of the many other activities in Napier – from a early morning hot air balloon adventure to an art deco walk.

Your vacation accommodation is within strolling distance of the CBD, shopping area and all the attractions Marine Parade has to offer. The Hawkes Bay Wineries are just a short drive away. Your accommodation offers an internet café, fitness centre, free car parking, guest laundry and comfortable units with a double bed with single bed, Sky TV, ceiling fan, hairdryer and iron & ironing board. Coffee and tea making facilities are available in some rooms. (Please ask about upgrades to a King or Queen bed room. These are available at an additional cost)

(Day 7) - Self Drive from Napier to Martinborough

Today self-drive from Napier, Hawkes Bay to Martinborough.

Start your self drive from Napier to Hastings. Hastings was devastated by a huge earthquake in 1931. As a result, the city has a great deal of remarkable Art Deco and Spanish Mission-style architecture. Fabulous parks and delicious ice cream are two other reasons to visit Hastings. In the apple and pear season, there’s no better place to be. Hastings is New Zealand’s leading pipfruit region.

On the drive from Hastings, you’ll encounter a wildlife sanctuary at Mt Bruce and the legendary town of Eketahuna (in kiwi slang Eketahuna is the archetypal hick town). The Tararua Windfarm (it makes electricity out of thin air) is a little further north to see it, follow the road to Ballance. After the antique shops of Woodville you can inspect locally made knitwear in Dannevirke, a town originally settled by Scandinavians. The rural service towns of Waipukurau and Waipawa both have historic buildings to view.

Every year in March, Masterton hosts the international Golden Shears competition. Sheep shearing in the Wairarapa is both a sport and an art form. The town’s main park has an aviary, aquarium, deer park and a small boating lake. Or you could rediscover your childhood at the local toy museum.

Enjoy the clean, green scenery as you drive north through the friendly townships of the Wairarapa. In Featherston you’ll find an interesting locomotive museum. Greytown has many beautiful examples of Victorian architecture and a quaint museum take yourself on a self-guided walk. Carterton is a good place to shop for paua shell souvenirs it’s also a place to enjoy daffodils in the spring.

In recent years, Martinborough has become the gourmet capital of the lower North Island. It is home to over 25 boutique vineyards, several fabulous restaurants and a number of upmarket bed and breakfast establishments. From the charming town square, you can walk to most of the local attractions.

(Day 7) - Self Drive from Martinborough to Wellington

Take a short-drive from Martinborough to Wellington approximately 1 hour.

After the town of Featherston, which has an interesting locomotive museum, you’ll climb up and over the Rimutaka Range – great views in every direction. Once the mountains are behind you, it’s easy driving for the rest of your journey. You’ll wind through the picturesque Hutt Valley then a fast moving motorway will whisk you into the city.

Wellington is compact, cultured and full of character. Nestled between the harbour and the hills, the downtown area is ideal for explorations on foot. Enjoy cafes, restaurants, museums and all kinds of shops. Dance, theatre and musical performances are a Wellington specialty. As New Zealand’s capital, this city is rich in political history.

(Days 7 to 9) - 2 Nights Accommodation in Wellington

Travel to your accommodation in Wellington, New Zealand, where you will be staying whilst on vacation for 2 nights.

Your 4 Star vacation accommodation is located conveniently in the heart of Wellington, New Zealand. It is a short walk from Westpac Stadium, Te Papa Museum and the waterfront. (Day 8) - Free Day to Explore Wellington

Wellington, voted the ‘Coolest Little Capital in the World’ offers the visitor heaps of cool things to do that just happen to be free.

New Zealand’s capital city, Wellington, sits nestled in a natural amphitheatre around the harbour. It is easy to explore on foot and there are heaps of great things to see and do that don’t cost a cent.

Visit the dynamic and interactive National Museum of NZ – Te Papa on the waterfront. Get your city bearings and some of Wellington’s best views at the Mount Victoria Lookout. Ride the historic Wellington Cable Car to the Botanic Garden. Four Wellington restaurants have won NZ’s Best Restaurant in the last five years. It’s safe to say you’ll be eating very well while in Wellington! Hear the birdsong and spot a tuatara as you walk through ZEALANDIA: The Karori Sanctuary Experience. Get an inside peek into Wellywood at The Weta Cave in Miramar. Go stargazing and check out the amazing planetarium show at Carter Observatory. Seeking hidden treasures? Many of Wellington’s best night spots are tucked away for your finding, such as Motel, Library or Duke Carvell’s Swan Lane Emporium. Head to Cuba Street for a slice of Bohemia, boutique shopping and some of the best coffee in town.

Located just minutes away from the heart of Nelson, with views stretching across the Waimea Inlet to the mountains of Kahurangi National Park, this accommodation is the perfect retreat.

(Day 10) - Day Tour, Tonga Island Seals & Kayaking

Explore Tonga Island Marine Reserve and seal colony, paddling from Onetahuti to Bark Bay. In the high season, include optional walk to Torrent Bay.

Land at Tonga Quarry and walk 15 minutes to the golden expanse of Onetahuti Beach where your Guide will introduce you to your stable, double kayak with full instructions and safety brief. Then it’s on to the water to enjoy exploring some of the best sea kayaking territory on the Abel Tasman coast.

Your Guide will design each day to suit, depending on tides, weather conditions, your interests and abilities. Weather permitting, paddle out to view the antics at the Seal Colony on Tonga Island. Watch out for sea birds and you could see a Little Blue Penguin. Return to the mainland and relax on a golden sand beach, take a short bush or beach walk (optional) before paddling south to Bark Bay. (Approximately 2.5 hours paddling)

In the summer months (8 Oct – 18 April) the Cruise schedule allows an extra 2 hours at Bark Bay to explore the wide, sandy estuary, walk to Bark Bay Falls, swim or laze on the golden sand.

(Day 11) - Day Tour - Abel Tasman Walk & Relax Tour

Boat to Anchorage and relax on the beach or do some short walks.

Abel Tasman National Park is world famous for its golden sand beaches, turquoise waters, completely unmodified estuaries, lush bush to the high tide mark and the excellent walking tracks.

Depart Kaiteriteri for Anchorage and relax on the beach.

Enjoy a one hour return walk to Te Pukatea Bay; a 1½ hour return walk to Pitt Head to view the lighthouse and panoramic views, or, from Anchorage, walk to Cleopatra’s Pool.

(Day 12) - Self-Drive from Nelson to Franz Josef

Enjoy a drive from Nelson to Franz Josef.

(Days 12 to 14) - 2 Nights Accommodation in Franz Josef

Travel to just outside the main Franz Josef Glacier village, your Accommodation is the ideal base for you to enjoy your vacation and everything the Glacier region and the glorious New Zealand West Coast has to offer.

Franz Josef Glacier, a perfect paradox. This remote village is set on the six hundred kilometre coastline in the tranquility of Westland National Park and yet offers rest and recreation at city levels amongst some of the wildest scenery in New Zealand. (Day 13) - Day Tour, Franz Josef Glacier Valley Walk

Enjoy the glacier exploration in a very unique way!

After an exciting scenic flight, you land high up on the glacier and undertake a guided hike amongst some of the most pristine and awe-inspiring glacier scenery available. Your guide chooses the route as you go and with an eye for the most spectacular ice formations you’ll soon be making your way through a wonderland of towering pinnacles and brilliantly blue ice. You’ll enjoy panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and with plenty of photo opportunities and the chance to learn more about this magnificent glacier, this will almost certainly be your most memorable experience in New Zealand. A picnic lunch is provided while on the ice for a fully inclusive exerience.

(Day 14) - Self-Drive from Franz Josef to Wanaka

Drive time: approximately 3.5 hours.

Depart Franz Josef for Wanaka.

On your drive you will go through Fox Glacier and continue south. Before reaching the town of Haast is Lake Moeraki, a peaceful forest lake with good fishing. A 40 minute walk will take you to the penguin colony at Monro Beach. Continue through Haaast Pass and enjoy waterfalls and river scenery as you arrive leave the rainforest country.

(Days 14 to 17) - 3 Nights Accomodation in Wanaka

Drive time: approximately 1 hour.

Depart Wanaka for Queenstown.

The shortest route to Queenstown is over the Crown Range Road. It’s a challenging drive, but the views are amazing and you’ll probably encounter friendly keas (mountain parrots). More conservative drivers can take the route that runs beside the Clutha River, Lake Dunstan, and the Shotover River. The vineyards of the Gibbston area and bungy jumpers at the Kawarau River Bridge are interesting distractions along the way.

(Days 17 to 19) - 2 Nights Accommodation in Queenstown

One of the first sights to captivate visitors to Queenstown is the distinctive outline of the Skyline complex high above town.

Located an easy 5 minute walk from central Queenstown and exclusively accessed by scenic gondola, Skyline Gondola, Restaurant & Luge is a must-see attraction during your visit to Queenstown. The best views in the region are found here, spread out in a spectacular 220 degree panorama, with breathtaking views of Coronet Peak, The Remarkable mountain range and across Lake Wakatipu to Cecil and Walter Peaks. It’s truly magnificent and awe-inspiring!

(Day 19) - Day Tour, Doubtful Sound exiting Queenstown to Te Anau

Travel to an untouched world deep in the heart of Fiordland National Park. The beauty and vastness of Doubtful Sound will take your breath away as you experience its deep wilderness.

When you discover Doubtful Sound you will be struck by its silence – a silence broken only by birdsong or the rushing of a distant waterfall. Its beauty and vastness will take your breath away.

Your day begins in Manapouri with a cruise across the picturesque Lake Manapouri followed by a trip across New Zealand’s most expensive road over Wilmot Pass, pausing along the way to experience the dense Fiordland rainforest and view Doubtful Sound glistening far below.

In Doubtful Sound, you will board our spacious, purpose built catamaran Patea Explorer for a three hour cruise through this pristine fiord. During the cruise our knowledgeable and friendly nature guides will share with you their passion for the region through their commentary. They will answer questions, point out landmarks and provide you with information about the varied wildlife you may encounter like dolphins, fur seals and the rare Fiordland crested penguin.

This tour ends in Te Anau.

(Day 20) - Ferry & Shuttle Transfer, Te Anau to Stewart Island

Your coach will transfer you from Ta Anau to Stewart Island this morning. Enjoy the beautiful South Island scenery along the way plus an hour long ferry ride to the remotely beautiful Stewart Island!

(Days 20 to 23) - 3 Nights Accommodation on Stewart Island

Stewart Island is perfect for a day excursion or an extended stay.

With georgous bays, beautiful sand beaches and densely forested hills, Stewart Island has a combination of landscapes. Stewart Island has been named `The Home of the Kiwi.` It has the highest number of accessible species in New Zealand.In just one day, one can usually access over 30 species. Bonus sitings can be, Bottlenose Dolphin, Fur Seal, Sealion, the occasional Sea Elephant and whales. A visit to Stewart Island isn’t complete without a browse through the Rakiura Museum. The museum has a collection of items and photographs of Stewart Island`s history. For example the Maori settlement, muttonbirding, fishing, timber milling, mining, boat building, schools and churches.

(Day 21) - Day Tour - Walking Tour around Ulva Island

A 3 – 4 hour quided walk around Ulva Island; a unique experience, learning about native flora and fauna from a Maori and local Stewart Island perspective.

Located in Waka o te Wera or Paterson Inlet, with 11km of coastline, Ulva Island is a scenic gem of unsurpassed beauty; an open predator free bird sanctuary. Ulva Island is easily accessed by a short watertaxi ride across Paterson Inlet from Golden Bay. With easy walking tracks, we take time to enjoy and discover our luxuriant green mantle of podocarp forest. Ulva Island is rich with mosses, ferns, liverworts, filmy ferns and native orchids.

A 2 .5 hour excursion exploring the coastal marine area of Stewart Island and Titi Islands (Mutton Bird
Islands) including a 45 minute semi submersible experience (subject to sea conditions).

The cruise explores the coastal area which is home to a vast range of marine species both above and below water, with a specialist Nature Guide providing detailed interpretation of the areas rich history and fauna. During the cruise, transfer to the semi submersible with underwater viewing to see Stewart Island’s rich marine life. Keep an eye out for wildlife including, penguins, albatross and titi (the unique birds of the area) and view the kelp forests and diverse fish species underwater.
The Titi Islands are home to iconic marine species including seals and great white sharks. Learn about research programs unlocking the secrets of these species. The area is also rich in both Maori and European history and the Nature Guide will detail traditional food gathering in the area along with today’s commercial activity. The excursion may vary due to sea and weather conditions and the opportunities to view wildlife.

The Otago Wine/Railtrail Combo Guided cycle adventure is a 5 day/4 night tour on the Otago Central Railtrail. Cycling 3.5 to 4.5 hours per day on a vehicle free trail with an easy gradient.

The bonus being a Central Otago Wine Experience. Amazing scenery whilst riding over viaducts, through tunnels and encountering old historic hotels. Stay in twin/double share accommodation. Rest, Relax or Explore Dunedin.

There is so much to do in Dunedin. Visit the city centre – which is shaped like an Octagon and see the 100 year old statue of poet Robbie Burns. Enjoy the architecture, especially the Old Railway Station a couple of blocks from the city centre. Dunedin Botanical Gardens – occupying over 123 acres in the north end of the city is an excellent place for a several-hour stroll.

Baldwin Street is located in Dunedin’s North East Valley suburb. According to the Guinness Book of Records it is the steepest street in the world. Take the ten minute walk to the top or drive up to enjoy the view looking down! There is a drinking fountain at the top. Don’t forget Larnach Castle, the only castle in New Zealand; it’s very pretty but technically only a manor house.

With its exciting, sometimes scandalous, sometimes tragic history, its magnificent carved ceilings, New Zealand antiques and breathtaking views, Larnach Castle offers you a vision of the past and present.

Settle back and enjoy the coach drive up and over the Peninsula high road, offering spectacular views out over the Pacific Ocean on one side and the beautiful Otago harbour on the other. Your driver will provide an informative commentary along the way as you pass through stone-walled farmlets.

On arrival at Larnach Castle you will be taken on a guided tour through the ‘halls of power and scandal’ of this historic 19th century home. From the castle turret you can survey the Otago Harbour below.

Visitors can enjoy exploring the Castle and the beautiful gardens, now an attraction in their own right. Original antiques grace the building and the family has amassed a unique collection of New Zealand furniture.

This tour can be done as a guide tour from Dunedin or if you have a rental car you can drive up and explore the castle on your own.

Your Dunedin experience begins with this one-hour introduction tour to life and times in this city of firsts. Scottish Presbyterian settlers arrived here in 1848 and the incorporation of the City Council in 1865 was the first in New Zealand. Dunedin also lays claim to NZ’s first University, first girls high school, first chocolate factory, first public botanic gardens, first daily newspaper, first cable car public transport, first kerosene street-lighting and first public art gallery. The first telephone call in New Zealand was also made here and we include the world’s steepest street, Baldwin St, on the tour. In the 19th century, Dunedin was a progressive and vibrant centre of NZ’s commerce, culture and education.
