Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive Auckland, Freedom of Choice

Day 2: Auckland, Waitomo Caves, Rotorua, Hangi Feast

Leaving Auckland, travel to the Waitomo caves. Take a silent boat ride through a mystical grotto, lit by thousands of tiny glowworms. Then continue to Rotorua, a centre of Maori culture and famous for its geothermal activity. Tonight, enjoy a Hangi Feast and learn about ancient Maori customs.

Day 3: Rotorua, Freedom of Choice

Follow the Thermal Explorer Highway through the heart of the North Island. See spectacular Huka Falls and the tranquil setting of Lake Taupo. Cross the vast volcanic plateau of Tongariro National Park to Wellington, where you’ll enjoy a choice of restaurants this evening.

Set off on a sightseeing tour today taking you to the city’s best-loved landmarks, including the Museum of New Zealand – Te Papa Tongarewa. Then ride Wellington’s iconic Cable Car, gaining a fresh perspective on this coastal city. B

Day 6: Wellington, Kaikoura, Christchurch
Board the Interislander ferry to cruise across Cook Strait and on to Picton on the South Island. Rejoin your coach and journey through Marlborough and Kaikoura, to Christchurch.

Day 7: TranzAlpine Train, Franz Josef

This morning, board the TranzAlpine train for a trip through breathtaking landscapes. Disembark at Arthur’s Pass and continue to Hokitika. Here, see Pounamu (jade) being carved into beautiful jewellery. You’ll also view the ancient glacial scenery and rainforest at Franz Josef Glacier. Check in to your luxury eco-resort before enjoying a four-course degustation dinner this evening.
