Travel through the city of Adelaide northwards to the world-renowned Barossa wine region. Enjoy the change of scenery as you make your way into the vineyards of South Australia’s premium wine district. Your first stop is at the multi-award-winning Jacob’s Creek Visitor Centre where you will have the opportunity to sample their famous wines in a structured tasting, be taken on a tour of the surrounding vines and cellar door then enjoy morning tea as you overlook the vineyards. Leaving Jacob’s Creek Visitor Centre, travel to Mengler Hill Lookout for sweeping views over the valley and then onto Lambert Estate in Angaston for wine tasting and a 2-course lunch. Leaving the Barossa, drive past the Herbig Family Tree at Springton. This hollow tree trunk provided a ‘home’ for Friedrich & Caroline Herbig and two of their 16 children until 1860. Travel to the picturesque Adelaide Hills and on arrival into Hahndorf (Adelaide’s oldest German settlement) and visit Beerenberg Farm Shop where you can read about the story of how Beerenberg began and the history of Hahndorf. You will also have time to explore the entire range of products in the Farm Shop, plus a selection of souvenirs and gifts. Kangaroo Island Coast to Coast – Stay overnight on KI and discover some of the wildlife that is rarely seen in daylight. On the second day take a Sealink coach tour to experience the unspoiled and wild beauty of KI’s Flinders Chase National Park.
Day 1 Adelaide to Kangaroo Island
Join your scenic coach drive through the Fleurieu Peninsula to Cape Jervis where you’ll board the Sealink ferry for your 45 minute cruise to Kangaroo Island (KI). Your first visit is Emu Ridge Eucalyptus Distillery where you will learn about the history of the oil distillery, and take a guided tour and stay for a delicious lunch amongst the gum trees.
After lunch visit Seal Bay Conservation Park and walk amongst Australian sea lions on a guided beach walk with a National Park Ranger. Continue onto the fascinating In-flight Birds of Prey Display at Raptor Domain where you can meet an array of Australian birds and raptors.
From here you will travel to Kangaroo Island Wildlife Park where you can get up close with Koalas, see Penguins swim and play, hand feed Kangaroos and Wallabies, learn about endangered species, interact with Snakes, Crocodiles and reptiles and experience Kangaroo Island Wildlife at your fingertips! You will then be transferred back to your chosen overnight accommodation.
Day 2 Kangaroo Island to Adelaide
After a delicious breakfast, visit Clifford’s Honey Farm to enjoy an informative talk by the beekeeper followed by tastings and an opportunity to sample homemade honey ice-cream.
Next, travel to Emu Bay Lavender Farm for a scrumptious lunch after which you will have the chance to go for a walk around the farm and peruse their cute Farm Gate store.
Then visit Reeves Point, Pennington Bay and Kingscote, the island’s main township for photo opportunities. Finish the day with a wine tasting at Dudley Wines Clifftop Cellar Door to taste their spectacular boutique wines. Return to the Penneshaw Ferry Terminal or Kingscote Airport for the return journey to Adelaide.
