Days 4 to 6 - 3 Day / 2 Night Kangaroo Island Exploration

Discover nature & wildlife and Kangaroo Island food & wine on this fantastic three-day tour where you will experience the best of Kangaroo Island and much more. See kangaroos, koalas and wonderful native birdlife in their natural habitats, wander past wild Australian sea lions, lunch in style in a private bush setting and visit formations such as Remarkable Rocks and Admirals Arch. Travel through the island’s interior and see some spectacular beaches. See dolphins and seals on a 3-hour marine adventure and taste some local Kangaroo Island produce.

Day 1 – Adelaide to Kangaroo Island
Early morning pick up from your Adelaide hotel for a scenic coach journey to Cape Jervis to connect with SeaLink’s ferry for the 45-minute crossing to Kangaroo Island. On arrival at Penneshaw you will be met by your local guide and your island nature experience begins with an introduction to Kangaroo Island.

Tour through several island habitats and see wildlife in its natural environment. Kangaroo Island is a haven for Australian wildlife, which exists in its natural habitat without the threat of introduced predators. Listen to the distinct sounds of the native birdlife as they chorus from the tall eucalyptus trees. Kangaroo Island is home to some 250 species of birds, many of which, through isolation from the mainland, have developed their own subspecies and are therefore unique to Kangaroo Island. As you travel the island keep an eye out for echidnas, wallabies, reptiles, and wildflowers.

At the spectacular Seal Bay Conservation Park, your guide will escort you on a memorable walk along the beach. This bay is home to a healthy Australian sea lion colony. Walk among the sea lions as they bask on the beach or among the sand dunes after their extensive fishing expedition. With your guide you can stand at a safe distance to these wonderful, endangered creatures and hear them sigh and watch them at play. This is a truly unforgettable experience — one that you will treasure forever.

Enter the exclusive Heritage-listed natural bush property to enjoy a delicious gourmet style picnic lunch with complimentary Kangaroo Island wine. Follow your lunch with a pleasant bushwalk or beach stroll, then travel through the island’s interior keeping an eye out for koalas and echidnas.

In the afternoon, explore spectacular beaches and as the day draws to a close, see the kangaroos leave the safety of the bush to begin grazing on the open pastures. Your day concludes at the Aurora Ozone Hotel, Kingscote for your first nights’ accommodation on Kangaroo Island.

Day 2 – Kangaroo Island

This morning we travel to the western section of the island and discover the Flinders Chase National Park, one of the oldest and most important national parks in South Australia. The park incorporates almost 20 per cent of the island and much of it is a Wilderness Protection Area which is home to a variety of fauna and flora unique to Kangaroo Island.
At Admirals Arch see where the powerful forces of nature have cut through the headland to create this natural geological formation. Watch some of the 10,000 healthy Long-nosed Fur Seals in their colony at Cape du Couedic and take a stroll around the historic Cape du Couedic Lighthouse and Weir’s Cove. Next, discover the picturesque formations of Remarkable Rocks. These large granite boulders balance dramatically on the cliff edge, which plunges 75 metres into the Southern Ocean.
Enjoy a delicious gourmet style picnic lunch with Kangaroo Island wine in a secluded scenic location. Koalas can be observed peacefully existing in their treetop habitat.
In the afternoon, explore some of the most spectacular beaches on Kangaroo Island and marvel at the stunning coastlines the island has to offer. There will be many photo opportunities along the way for you to capture long lasting memories of your time on beautiful Kangaroo Island. Your day concludes at your accommodation for your second night stay on Kangaroo Island.

Day 3 – Kangaroo Island to Adelaide

After a hearty breakfast, travel with Kangaroo Island Marine Adventures and witness some amazing coastal formations and learn from our highly skilled guides and skipper about the ecology of the north coast and its features. We get the chance to view dolphins in their natural environment as we pass through their relaxation areas. For those that want a closer look, use our snorkel gear and jump into the dolphins’ environment for a swim! You are completely free to swim around, no ropes, no boundaries! Or for those that don’t want to get wet, sit back and enjoy the view. On return, enjoy a gourmet picnic style lunch featuring the delicious local produce of Kangaroo Island and South Australia along with Kangaroo Island wine.

After lunch, travel a short distance to The Islander Estate Vineyards for an intimate guided wine tasting experience in their Cygnet River tasting room. Next, visit Kangaroo Island Spirits, a local company that specializes in handcrafted premium Australian Spirits and is South Australia’s only boutique distillery. Known as KIS, the company operates a micro distillery, and the award-winning Gin, Vodka and Liqueurs are all produced on the premises.
As we head back into the main township of Kingscote, we’ll drop in at Island Beehive for a shop visit and brief talk.
Kangaroo Island is South Australia’s newest wine region, and you’ll get the opportunity to taste some local wines at Bay of Shoals Wines while enjoying the great sea views from the cellar door.
