The Visitor Centre at the parking area is the best place to start your visit. The Interpretation section is excellent. They also advise on weather conditions and walk safety. You need to be aware that you will catch a shuttle from the Visitor Centre into the National Park to visit Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake. The price of the shuttle is included in your National Park Entry Fee (can be purchased at the Visitor Centre).

There is a wide range of walks available in the area, though it is always a good idea to check the expected weather conditions at the Interpretation Centre before venturing into exposed areas. Enchanted Walk – A 1.1km (.7 miles) circuit walk to suit all age groups. There’s a cascading river ,wombat burrows and magical old-growth rainforest. Duration: 20 minute circuit. Beginner hiking skill needed.

Crater Lake Circuit Walk – This 5.7 km (3.5 miles) track is at a lower altitude than many other tracks in the Cradle Mountain area. It’s a better option for days when the higher altitude tracks are being lashed by cold winds and heavy rain. Duration: 2 hour circuit walk. Moderate hiking skill needed. Sections of track can be ice-covered and slippery, particularly during the winter months.

Cradle Mountain Summit – The main track to Cradle Mountain summit leaves from Dove Lake and goes via Lake Lilla and Marions Lookout. However, walkers have a choice of several tracks and can choose to walk a different track on their return trip. Please check with front desk on best times of day and fitness levels needed to help you choose the best track. Duration: 6 to 8 hours return is 6.4km (4 miles) one way. Experienced hiking skill required. Track starts at 900m (2,953 Feet) and climbs to 1545m (5,069 feet) elevation. Highland weather conditions can change quickly and frequently. Ice and snow regularly cover the track in the winter and spring months.

PLEASE NOTE: Heavy rain, snow and freezing temperatures can occur in any month of the year. Ask your hotel front desk for more information on these walks. They can help you decide which hike will best suit your fitness levels combined with the ever changing weather.

Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Cafe
Part of Tasmania’s Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail, this Farm stop is really fun with delicious food and yummy ice cream. The Farm Shop offers free tastings with a compulsory free chocolate-coated raspberry which comes with a warning that you will be addicted, definitely the cafe’s signature dish. Fresh raspberries during the season and frozen raspberries in winter are sold along with a pantry full of products made from raspberries.

Campbell Town
Stretch your legs, grab a bite and learn some history with a stop at Campbell Town. Campbell Town is full of colonial history and a self-guided walk that follows the Convict Brick Trail along High Street reveals the individual stories of Tasmania’s convicts.
There are some impressive colonial structures to admire along the way, including the famous Red Bridge. Built by convicts in the 1830s, it’s said to contain one million bricks and these days carries more than two million vehicles each year.

There are good eateries for quick snacks or long lunches, plus shops of all sorts and lovely picnic spots by the river.

Devil’s Corner Cellar Door and Lookout
The Devil’s Corner Cellar Door and Lookout is located by the edge of Moulting Lagoon on Tasmania’s beautiful East Coast and provides spectacular views across the Lagoon to the Hazards at Coles Bay.

The new, architecturally designed Tower provides the perfect location to enjoy the view, while the recently opened cellar door provides tastings of the award winning Devil’s Corner wines, many exclusive to the cellar door.

The Fishers Seafood is located next to the cellar door and serves the freshest seafood, including oysters and mussels from the Lagoon and local fish straight off the boats.

Tombolo Cafe sit on the other side of the cellar door, and utilize local ingredients to produce a range of wood fired pizza’s along with freshly made gelato and espresso coffee.

Wineglass Bay Lookout Track
This popular 1.86 mile (3K) trail takes you to one of the most stunning views in all of Tasmania. Wineglass Bay’s sensual shape and breathtakingly blue water has a white sandy beach exclamation point. It’s simply not to be missed. But, to actually see the wineglass shape of the bay, you’ll have to hike a bit to get to this elevated lookout.

Despite the ascent, this trail is suitable for just about everyone. You’ll have to bring plenty of water and wear a bit of sunscreen, as the hike is mostly exposed, hot and dry. The track is well-worn and takes you over compact granite to some steps that are suitable for most. There are signs everywhere and you’ll likely encounter plenty of people so there is no risk of getting lost. It may be a hard trek up, but it is well worth the effort. If you are keen, you can hike down to the beach too!

Wineglass Bay Lookout – 1-1½ hours’ return

This walk will reward you with your first, unforgettable view of one of the world’s best beaches, Wineglass Bay. From the start of the well-formed rocky track at the Wineglass Bay car park, take the short, but quite steep climb to reach the saddle between Mt Amos and Mt Mayson. Here, you can take the side track to the lookout and absorb the unarguably stunning views of Wineglass Bay.

Wineglass Bay – 2½ hours return

Leave early for this walk, as you will want to stay and take your time to absorb the extraordinary beauty of one of Tasmania’s most celebrated places.

From the Wineglass Bay lookout, continue your walk downhill through the open forest until you reach the fine, white silica sand of Wineglass Bay beach. This long, perfectly arched crescent of sand is lapped by clear turquoise blue water, and presided over by the rugged bulk of The Hazards. A twenty-minute walk to the southern end of the beach will give you the best views of these imposing formations.

Hazards Beach – 5-6 hours’ return

Follow the Wineglass Bay track to the lookout, and then downhill until just before you reach Wineglass Bay. Here, take the track to the right, which leads to a flat, 30-minute walk to Hazards Beach. Take some time to explore the long gentle sands of this beach. You may see evidence of Aboriginal occupation here in the form of ancient shell middens. Watch for abundant birdlife, shy browsing wallabies or even a glimpse of dolphins or whales offshore. Return along the beach to the track and your return walk to the Wineglass Bay car park.

Wineglass Bay/Hazards Beach circuit – 4 to 5 hours

Take a full day to enjoy this walk, which will lead you through diverse coastal vegetation and forest, along tranquil, empty beaches and onto the shoulders of mountains to reveal some of the most superb coastal landscapes and scenery to be found in Tasmania. This walk leads you from the start of the track to Wineglass Bay and across the isthmus to Hazards Beach. After following the beach to its northern end, you’ll join another track, which traces the coastline around the base of Mt Mayson before returning to the Wineglass Bay car park.

Mt Amos – 3 hours’ return

Those who enjoy a physical challenge and an unforgettable view will be rewarded for their efforts on this walk. The track to the summit of Mt Amos, part of The Hazards range, is steep and physically demanding. This walk will reward experienced, well-prepared walkers with panoramic views of Freycinet Peninsula.

Cape Tourville Lighthouse – 20 minute circuit

Just 15 minutes’ drive from Coles Bay, this easy circuit walk offers spectacular views of Sleepy Bay, Wineglass Bay and along the coast towards Bicheno. The 600 metre track is wide and even with gently graded slopes and is suitable for walkers with strollers.

Built in 1971, the Cape Tourville Lighthouse replaced the inaccessible, decommissioned Cape Forestier Lighthouse. Cape Tourville Lighthouse was constructed as an automatic light and was never manned.

Good walking boots, appropriate clothing for the weather conditions, a map, water and adequate food are essential when bushwalking in Tasmania.

Drive from Freycinet National Park to Hobart.

From Freceycinet head west to Campbell Town and then south to Richmond to spend the day in the Coal River Valley.

History Stop: Ross Female Factory
Make a quick stop and stretch your legs in Ross. The Ross Female Factory, erected in 1833, is located in the town of Ross, Tasmania. It was initially built to house the convict chain gains employed on the Ross Bridge. Admission is free.

The Ross Female Factory is one of four female factories built in Tasmania. Between 1847 and 1854 it operated as a probation station for female convicts and their babies. Visit the Overseer’s Cottage and look at the display including a model of the Female Factory in 1851. You may want to take time to follow the Ross Heritage Trail which runs past the site.

Richmond
Richmond is a picture-perfect town in the heart of the Coal River Valley wine region that tells the story of an early Australian colonial village. This is the perfect place to learn about Tasmania’s past and can be as easy as a stroll down the pretty nineteenth century streets.

Your unforgettable day will commence with a visit to Moonlit Sanctuary Conservation Park where you are guaranteed plenty of close encounters with an array of Australian native animals like kangaroos, wombats and echidnas.

Next stop is Phillip Island where, time/season permitting, you’ll drive to Woolamai Surf Beach to catch a glimpse of the awesome waves and die-hard surfers. Following this, you then travel over to the dramatic west coast of the island. From the beach’s northern end, a leisurely 1.3km-return guided hike to Hill Inlet lookout follows a path walked by the Whitsundays’ traditional owners, the Ngaro people. Back at Whitehaven’s southern end, swim or relax on the sand, or tackle the stairs to the Whitehaven Beach Lookout and view the length of Whitehaven Beach. A delicious gourmet burger is waiting for you back on the Whitehaven sand.

On the northern end you can explore the spectacular Hill Inlet, then travel to the eastern side of the uninhabited Whitsunday Island to see nature at its unspoiled, spectacular best. Magical Whitehaven Beach is considered one of the top 10 beaches in the world and one of the must-see icons of the Whitsundays. With 7 kilometers of glistening pure white natural silica sand, enjoy beach activities, take a leisurely stroll and explore, swim in the crystal-clear waters or simply lay back under the sun shelters and enjoy a good book!

From Calmsley Hill you will continue to ascend the Blue Mountains via the highway. Visit one of a range of stunning outlooks of the Jamison Valley seeing beautiful vistas. Where possible this will be away from the crowds of tours that visit the mountains each day with other operators, thus you will have the opportunity to enjoy a stress and hurry free environment taking in the views and information imparted by your guide.

Continuing on you will arrive at Eaglehawk Lookout, a remote lookout points away from the crowds for views of the famous 3 Sisters. Whilst the Blue Mountains features so much more than this natural attraction you can’t help but admire the unquestionable beauty of this amazing rock formation. The character of the Three Sisters changes throughout the day and throughout the seasons as the sunlight brings out the magnificent colors. Here your guide will discuss the legends behind this famous rock formation and time available for you to take some great photos.

Next you will be taken around the mountain towards the village of Blackheath and our lunch venue the Boiler House Cafe. Here in this relaxed venue with stunning views, you can enjoy a 2-course lunch with tea or coffee. All diets are catered for (excluding Kosher Meals). The afternoon is spent visiting a selection of lookouts. Once you clap your eyes on the view from Govetts Leap you’ll know why it’s one of the most famous lookouts in Australia. The magnificent waterfall drops a whopping 180m to the base of the cliff. If you’re not mesmerized by the dancing waves of water spray, you’ll be transfixed by the sweeping views down the valley to the Grose Wilderness.

Then take a brief stop to enjoy a glass of sparkling wine or orange juice at the delightful Mt Tomah Botanic Gardens, where you can enjoy the sweeping views across to Sydney before traveling down the Bells Line of Road to arrive back at your hotel approximately 4:30pm.
