Trip Details
Tasman Island & Port Arthur Tour
Travel to Tasmania and see these amazing sites! Your first tour takes you on a full day adventure of the Tasman Peninsula & the Port Arthur Site. Aboard this award-winning 3 hour wilderness Cruise, you will see the staggering coastal landscapes, sandy beaches and historic sites of the Tasman Peninsula. Many of these sites are featured in LION where the main characters play cricket on the beach, sail and fish in and around this amazing area. This will truly be a highlight of your trip as your boat cruises into deep-sea caves, past waterfalls, archways and to the foot of Australia’s highest sea cliffs. Keep an eye out for seals, dolphins, migrating whales and sea birds! Then spend some time in and around Port Arthur, the infamous and allegedly escape-proof penal colony from the 19th century. These days the historic site is home to over 30 buildings, ruins and restored period homes set in 40 hectares of landscaped grounds. Dive deep into the interesting history of this World Heritage Site.
Hobart, Mt Wellington & Female Factory Tour
Included in this package is a morning tour to Mount Wellington. Just like Saroo (Dev Patel) and Lucy (Rooney Mara) in LION, you’ll reach the top of the mountain and witness the panorama of Hobart spread out before you in a magnificent sight. You’ll also see St. David’s Park, pass by Anglesa Barracks, see Cascade Valley, take in the massive rock formations of the Organ Pipes, stop at the Female Factory, a one time female prison, and see Macquarie Street.
Hobart Accommodation
Renowned for spacious rooms and friendly hospitality, this property is centrally located – within a stone’s throw of the city centre and just a block from Hobart’s waterfront. From here it’s just a gentle stroll to Salamanca Place and its legendary market, restaurants, harbour and waterside festivities, such as the annual Taste of Tasmania.
Sydney Opera House
This one hour tour outlines the intricate and controversial history of the Sydney Opera House along with details of the unique design of this architectural masterpiece. You will visit a number of the six performance venues, including the magnificent wood paneled Concert Hall and the Opera Theatre as well as the new Utzon room. Tasmania Roars in Oscars-tipped Movie LION
Sharing airtime with Hollywood superstars in the slightly mythical true journey of Saroo Brierley, Tasmania – the actress, provides seductive glimpses of her pristine coastlines, uncrowded beaches, and untouched wilderness on the world stage. Premiering at the Toronto Film Festival to a standing ovation, the film is expected to collect a swag of Oscar nominations.
In LION, based on the bestselling book by Saroo Brierley A Long Way Home, Tasmania’s landscapes perform as the backdrop for Saroo’s extraordinary true story of survival and unwavering determination. As the story unfolds, keep an eye on the rugged splendour of this relatively unknown actress. She’s dramatic, providing colour and life without words. She needs no script.
Tasmania is a keeper of stories that affect the way one sees the world – likely why she’s been asked more than once to hit the silver screen in recent times. A natural beauty with a captivating grin, her magnetic sense of adventure will lure you in – inviting you to know her better.
Tasmania has long been known for her pristine wilderness, bountiful produce and inspired cultural offerings, but there’s far more to her. She’s not predicable. She has a trove of enchanting stories to be uncovered. Delve a touch deeper.
This supporting actress is no stranger to the stage. Travel + Leisure in recent years has named Tasmania amongst the world’s top ten islands. Lonely Planet sang her international praises, naming her the hottest destination on the planet a few years back and one of the world’s top 10 regions to visit last year. Her other accolades include world’s best whisky and best golf links course, along with the revered Saffire Freycinet, picking up best boutique hotel in the world.
Not that she likes to boast. But Tasmania is also home to that highly acclaimed private art gallery known as Mona and arguably the cleanest air on the planet, just for good measure. When you visit her, be sure to bring your appetite. Tasmania is bursting with passionate artisans producing organic, heirloom produce and locally distilled and brewed drink.
