The next morning you’ll board a quick flight to Launceston. This is Tasmania’s second largest city, and one of Australia’s oldest settlements.

Nestled along the scenic Tamar River, Launceston is a blend of natural beauty, historic Victorian splendor and a passion for only the best of Tasmania’s food and wine.

Cradle Mountain

Let your sense of adventure run free as you drive from Launceston to Cradle Mountain, one of Tasmania’s most renowned natural treasures. Just under 3 hours, this trip encompasses quirky towns, local cheese shops and historic caves.

• Stop in for creamy farm ice cream, fresh bottled milk and cheese at Ashgrove Farm. For a delicious road trip snack, grab a bag of their “Amaze Balls” cheese snacks!
• See Tasmania’s “Town of Murals” – Sheffield, a rural town painted in over 100 murals by local artists sharing the stories and characters of the town.
• Take a tour of King Solomons Caves, abounding in sparkling calcite crystals calling to mind images of fabled treasures.

Arrive to the ancient alpine mountains and glacial lakes of Cradle Mountain-Lake St. Clair National Park. When Australian naturalist and conservationist Gustav Weindorfer stood on the summit of Cradle Mountain, he proclaimed it, “A national park for the people for all time. It is magnificent, and people must know about it and enjoy it.” A century later, this expansive park stands as the jewel of Tasmania’s Wilderness World Heritage area.

You’ll stay 2 nights at a 4-star wilderness hotel nestled within the spectacular bushland of Cradle Mountain. Settle in for the night and prepare for an adventure-filled day in this stunning national park. Wake up to a free day to venture on walking trails and explore the mirrored waters of Cradle Mountain’s lakes, spotting wallabies and wombats along the way. As the sun sets, witness the breathtaking stillness of a star-laden sky, crystal clear in the Tasmanian night.

Freycinet National Park

It is Day 7 of your “Tassie” adventure, and it’s time you saw one of Australia’s most coveted beaches – Wineglass Bay.

Breathe in the crisp Cradle Mountain air one last time before heading out to Wineglass Bay in Freycinet National Park. Located on the east coast of Tasmania, driving through surreal landscapes dotted with wild kangaroos is half the fun of getting there. It is about a 4 hours’ drive, but you’ll want to allow a full day to enjoy the stops along the way.

• Part of Tasmania’s Cradle to Coast Tasting Trail, the Christmas Hills Raspberry Farm Café is a lakeside spot specializing in all things raspberry. Wake up with a raspberry latte and a fresh Tassie breakfast, or indulge in chocolate coated raspberries.
• Stretch your legs at Campbell Town, brimming with a storied history of its colonial convicts reflected on the Convict Brick Trail along High Street.
• Stop in for a vineyard lunch with a view at the award-winning Devil’s Corner Cellar Door and Lookout, located by the edge of Moulting Lagoon.

As you reach the coast, pink granite cliffs and white sand beaches welcome you into Freycinet National Park. You’ll stay 1 night at a spectacular waterfront location just inside the park, the perfect base for exploration.

Many great hikes are about the journey as much as the destination, but no hike can beat that first magical glimpse of Wineglass Bay. Remote, peaceful and unbelievably gorgeous, Wineglass Bay is easily one of the best beaches in the world.

Hobart

The next day you’ll head south to Hobart, driving past boutique wineries, historic landmarks and wildlife parks on the Southern Wine Trail.

Arrive into Hobart just as the evening sets in. Nestled against clean waterways at the foot of majestic Mount Wellington, Hobart is primed for fresh seafood, premium whiskey and wines. At the helm of Hobart’s burgeoning art scene is the Museum of Old and New Art (Mona), one of the world’s most controversial museums. Its vast collection ranges from subversive masterpieces to the macabre abstract. Located on the banks of the River Derwent, Mona also features a haute-cuisine restaurant, Moorilla winery and vineyard.

Your second day in Hobart takes you right to the heart of Mona with a Wine Meets Art Tour and Taste experience. Explore the museum before enjoying a wine-paired lunch and private guided tour of Moorilla winery with tastings. Then enjoy a free day to relax and explore the city, or join an optional tour:

• Travel down the channel to Bruny Island and discover spectacular landscapes and gourmet local produce in a delicious day out where every course on the menu is a stop on your journey. Sample artisanal cheeses, handcrafted whiskies and gin, fresh oysters, local chocolates and more.
• Explore Tasmania’s rugged coastlines on a wilderness cruise along the Tasman Peninsula. See breathtaking cliffs, spot dolphins and seals, and end with a visit to the Tasmanian Devil Conservation Park.
